Using H2 and H3 tags helps to break up the text in your blog article. You will also want to have your primary keyword bolded and italicized at least once in your post.

Choose the best keyword

In the body of the blog include your keyword naturally and avoid keyword stuffing. This is a very important aspect of learning how to write a good blog post. Just like that! Supporting keywords are also important. Try to find 5-15 related keywords for your topic. A good way to research keywords is to look at your competitors to see what words they are using in their blog posts.  You might try Google's Keyword Planner to research keywords.

Five tips on how to write a good blog post

Include at least one numbered or bullet list in your blog article. Some key tips on how to write a good blog post are:

  1. Avoid duplicate content: You want each blog post to be unique. Don't copy and paste large sections from other areas of your site.
  2. Include a call to action: Be sure to close with what you want your reader to do with this information.
  3. Use internal links: Within your blog post be sure to link to the appropriate pages on your own site.
  4. Have a readable URL: Create a 3-5 word URL that is lowercase and includes your keyword separated by hyphens.
  5. Include images: Place relevant images in your blog article, and be sure to add the alt text.
  6. Research content that works! We have found this software to be a great content research tool.

The importance of the meta description

Don't make the common mistake of neglecting the meta description. The meta description defines the few sentences under the meta title on the search engine page. Keep the length between 150-160 characters. Include your keyword and an accurate description of what your post is about. Note in the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP), there are 4 key elements:

  1. URL
  2. Meta Title
  3. Meta Description
  4. Sitelinks (we'll discuss this in another blog)
